  • Will you be able to keep up with the upkeep? If you are moving within an hour or your existing property, upkeep may not be a problem. If you are not handy and will be moving further than an hour away from your existing property, managing the property on your own may not be a great idea for you.
  • Will your mortgage company allow you to rent your home?

First Home vs. Dream Home

Our first home was an older-style townhome in Maple Grove, MN. We were so excited to have a home of our own and when we found it, it felt cozy. We were able to look past the fact that each and every wall had some sort of wallpaper. The carpet was a lovely shade of grey and the garage was perfect – as long as you didn’t need to get out of the vehicle once you were parked in it.

“As we began to settle in, it was quickly realized that we had outgrown our cozy townhome as soon as we’d moved in. Soon, our 2 closets were overflowing and there were organized piles everywhere. I would try and arrange the piles to look nice – and then we had kids.”

Minnesota State Shut Down & New Home Construction

There aren’t many people that haven’t been affected by the state shut down in one way or another. New home construction in Brooklyn Park, MN came to a standstill, while other cities home building was not affected.

There are a lot of steps in buiding a custom home. Each step is in place for a reason. Subcontractors, such as plumbers and electricians do a rough-in and then come back after other subcontractors have completed their part of the building process. Many things affect the building schedule, most often it is the weather.

Recently though, rescheduling has been due to the Minnesota state shut down. Homes being built in Brooklyn Park had to come to a complete stand still, due to inspections.

Some cities, like Maple Grove, have their own inspectors, some cities have contracts with inspectors and others rely on the city for inspections. Shutting down the state meant shutting down builders working in Brooklyn Park, MN.

Thankfully, TC Homes is back on track with our Brooklyn Park homes! We have new construction lots available in School District #11.

WHAT IS A CUSTOM HOME?

A custom home begins with your contractor listening to you. You can select a floor plan and rearrange it a bit to fit your specific needs and desires, such as handicap accessibility, or you can build an entirely custom home with your own custom blueprints. Once a custom floor plan has been selected, homeowners begin to meet with subcontractors that TC Homes has partnered with. The subcontractors include: electrical, plumbing, flooring, cabinetry, audio/visual, appliances and more, depending on your floor plan.

Once the selections are completed, the home is framed and ready to have subcontractors come in and start working. Although it is great to see each and every step take shape, the custom cabinets give the home it’s interior personality.

This is where homeowners go to meet and discuss their cabinetry for the kitchen and bath, as well as mantles, built-in’s, closet organizers, walk-in pantries, and much more.
